Yep it's a typo, I meant 17-18m /minute, I have corrected the typo now. I have run that wire up to 27.5V and 20m/minute before but no benefit was gained except for extra heat and a slightly bigger weld bead. But either way I don't have any problem with using it on 6mm plate.Agreed, if your machine is one that can spit the wire out fast, then the heat will never have the chance to back up in to the gun.
Although i think your quoted "about 17mt-18m/s wire speed" is a tad optimistic. 17 to 18 meters per second ?! Surely you mean per minute![]()
Obviously deposition rate is much lower than using 0.9mm, but I can use my little North 180amp torch with the 0.6mm wire which is much easier to use and maneuver than my standard 400A Bernard or the 350A Binzel. Its tiny compared to the other two torches. Seeing as I can only get 130A max out of the wire, the little torch doesn't have a problem with the heat.
