Welding help

Hey all. Im Rich and im
New to this joining metal with fire thing so I’m hoping to find someone in the Ringwood area to give me a lesson or two??

I’ve got all the gear and no idea!!

Can anyone help in the Ringwood Bournemouth area?? Happy to pay or come and work in a welding shop for free in exchange for some lessons??

What welding machine / process do you have?

Get some metal, have a practice and post up some pictures, plenty of constructive advice will be offered by the experienced welders (that’s not me)

Welcome, there is a lot of help here, however bad it is we have seen worse and someone will make sensible suggestions, we all started knowing SFA.

For sure I got loads of tips and help from the tutorials and advice from here.

That said - there is absolutely no substitute for experience - you need to be hands on and get a feel for things. Scrap metal and torch time are your friends.

I’m using a spartus easy mig 215. It’s an eBay job but seems pretty good quality. Issue is the interface is quite hard to use so I may try and get a simpler machine….

Yea that’s about an hour into getting the thing out of the box but it’s looks to me like I’ve got too high peak?? That ring true or am I being picky??

Those welds look a bit cold but not much, cut one in section so you can see the penetration and make a decision on more power or not.

Welcome aboard, fella.

You might struggle setting that up due to insurance and liability issues but no harm in asking around locally.

From you above pics, you're off to a good start.

Got a picture of it, likely made harder by not being familiar with the controls and suitable settings.

that just means he is smart enough to buy decent kit

It's good you've started on thicker metal to get your eye in. It'll help when (if) you move to weld thin car panels etc (which I tried to do straight off the bat, and with a cheap gasless mig as well )
