If you've got a blowtorch you can burn the galv off but it can be a messy way to do it...
and you still wanna grind the 4mm edge...

You need an assortment of angry grinder attachments - flap discs, 1mm cut discs as well as wire wheels...
Various manual wire brushes are handy too.
Seems like Tool Shopping is required !

Whichever method you use, wear a mask so you don't breathe it all in...

Weld with your back side to the wind so any fumes are blown away from you .. If needs be cover two sets of gate with canvas or sacking to get an air funnel going behind you or angle two vehicles behind you for the same effect .

I gave up welding mine - they were cheap ones and the material is paper thin. I even made up a jig to hold horizontals and verticals at 90 degrees. Far too easy to blow through. I was migging but I suppose brazing would probable be a better approach but the welded one always ended up too weak and breaking again. Chucked a load away not long ago.

When I say cheap, they were cheap quality but definitely not cheap financially !

£31 plus VAT, these days. They are only 1-2 years old.

I’ve done quite a few of these - hurdles are definitely getting thinner. Very easy to blow through with stick.

At the risk of overthinking, would it be better with DCEN, and maybe a heat sink inside the box?
