Welding for shipbuilding company

I have been asked by an agency to Perform a couple of test plates for a shipbuilding company, (B.A.E) One of my friends has allready done the test plates and said they’re easier than you think. One is a vertical butt and fillet and the other is overhead using 1.2 flux core dual shield.

I haven’t worked in a shipyard before. Does anyone have an idea of what it’s like? Which parts will I be welding together most of time etc

There was a documentary on YouTube of someone working at BAE down in Barrow. Poor sod was welding two halves of a submarine together. Looked like he was progressing about 2 inches a day and working his way around the diameter

You’ll probably start welding brackets and weldments to the hill, if you’re really skilled you’ll end up working on the butt, welding units together
