Welding Exhaust

    Can anyone tell me if I can weld up my broken stainless steel exhaust up using my MIG? the backbox broke off and it's going to take 4 working days to arrive and I need the car to get to work :cry:

    the exhaust broke on a the welded seem

    only needs to last a week.. think it'll be ok?

    If it doesn't need to last you should be able to clean it up with an angle grinder and weld it using mild steel wire. It'll be a rubbish weld with all the contamination, but should easilly last a week.

    The silencer will be full of bits of carbon and it's quite easy to set them on fire - then they smoulder for ever. Maybe running the engine will reduce the oxygen supply and put them out.

    Ah I see, thanks for the reply Malcolm. the exhaust is no longer on the car and it's currently my only way to get to work.. and at 6:45am I'm probably waking a load of people up!

    hopefully I'll get a chance to try welding it up on the weekend.. better have the water at the ready
