Ok here's the story , as winter is around the corner I decided to give one of our wood burners a bit of a service. I swept the flue and disconnected the stove and moved it into the workshop. I gave it a good clean out, replaced the bolts that hold it all together and it is now ready to be put back in the house .
But there is a crack in the front ash shelf ...see photos ... . The shelf is about 4mm thick and the crack is about 4-5 inches long.
So my question is what is the best method of welding up this crack? I've never welded cast. Do I need to get cast rods or can I stitch it on the underneath with the Mig .... It don't seem to have got bigger for a few years so shall I just leave well alone and not look for work ..... jeff....
