On things that are critical (ie, stuff thats not mine ), I have
a supply of C.I. stick electrodes I just pound the coating off of and give
it a spin under the wire brush.
Its hard to find TIG nickel filler round these parts & I don't do enough
of it to order any.
So far, none of the CI I've welded has come back -- good sign to me --
take it for what its worth.
I welded up a vice for a mate a few years ago, he was desperate, for it to be working again, so we preheated with gas, and I welded it up using TIG and 316l. A bit of heat while welding and some post heat, and then wrapped in lots of cloth afterwards. And it was good to go.
Must be 4 yrs since I did it and boy had that vice seen some beatings. Still good as.
