Welding BZP bolts

I need to weld some bolts into a mild steel fabrication.
I already have BZP bolts in the correct size, but, am wondering if the coating will affect weld strength.?
Would it be better to use uncoated,?

Its nicer to use black ones, but 9 times out of 10, the size you want are in BZP or Galv.

Even with BZP, just hit the zinc off with a grinder on the edges you are going to weld.

i would grind the coating back myself then weld. the welding temperature might take some of the strength out of the bolt though Technical might be the best person to ask on this matter he understand the chemistry of steel!

Never had any problems welding BZP nuts/bolts. The coating is quite thin and never seems to affect the strength of the weld.

I'll try the BZP's, they aren't highly loaded, so strength isn't an issue, purely a locking device.

I have welded plenty of them with no problems.
It might be worth turning the sheilding gas up a bit as the plating burns off.
Try to avoid breathing in too much of the fume.
Watch our for the bolts moving out of line as the first weld cools, I try to give them a tiny spot weld, let them cool for a few seconds then knock them back in line and start the finishing weld from the opposite side to the first spot.

I had forgotten about the fumes, thanks for that tip.
Looked it up on tinternet, definitely NOT GOOD fumes.
