Welding box section side by side

Hi all, just a quick question; I want to weld two sections of box together longwise or side by side. So I'll be welding two radiused corners together. One section of box is 3mm and the other is 2mm. Does this mean I'm welding through 5mm or just through 3mm of steel at most? thanks.

3mm as knighty says but really you would be welding within the 2mm parameter I'd imagine otherwise you might get blowouts.

i would keep my heat towards the 3mm and lap over to the 2mm in a sort of small circles motion, should save you burning thru, always good to do a small test piece with some off cuts first if unsure...

Cheers guys, it worked well. After learning to weld on thin body panels I'm starting to appreciate how enjoyable it is to work on something with slightly more thickness!
