welding base plates

hi

you will see that i have my shed base plates set. i want to weld to the end of beam.

is there any thing i should considers as it around 20mm going onto 6mm.

i was just thinking 3.2mm rods with 3 runs?

20mm baseplate are probably overkill. I’d warm them up a bit if you want to be 100%. 100°-125°C preheat.

I'd go for beam flange thickness plus up to 20% or something like that. We put some temporary steelwork up on site which I'm just dismantling now the work is done. One of those props was carrying up to 100 tonnes and I think the base plate was only 20mm.

10mm base plate is loads for that job. One run of a hot 3.2mm rod is plenty. If your multi running you will be straightening it with a sledge
