It was very good Brad, I don't know if they even run it now in the same format because it must of cost a fortune.
6 months trying everything like welding,machining, pipe fitting, slinging for cranes etc etc then you chose which trade you wanted to specialise in, then the next 18 months was intense trainjng on your specialised trade. With welding, plates and pipe was in unlimited supply and once you'd progressed from plate into pipe they used to X-Ray every single test piece you submitted and would only allow you to move onto the next joint once you'd passed a X-Ray to NAD (No Apparant Defects) even though the class 1 code at that time Asme 9 and 287-1 allowed a certain level of defect, they made you repeat until it was totally clear.
After the 2nd year you did 2 years site experience working on power stations and petro-Chem etc
Multiply that by 20 odd lads in each year and it must of cost a absolute fortune
