I was playing around trying to weld a couple of bits of 6mm angle together earlier - pointy bit to pointy bit to give an X shape (hope that makes sense but pic below).
I really struggled to get a decent weld with 3.2mm rods (fincords) at various amps and in frustration tried some 2.5mm unbranded rods - which I know are “ok” but not as nice to use as the Fincords. Huge improvement and pretty nice looking weld.
Seemed the wrong way around to me but I’m very new to welding so looking to understand what I was doing wrong and what other folk would have started with?
The 3.2mm weld was just a mess, inconsistent, blobby, inclusions. Just horrible! Looked like my first fillets when starting out with too long an arc etc.
