Welding an exhaust manifold

Hi all

I am half way through removing my MG engine an i have found that the exhaust manifold has a nice big crack on the down pipe clamp. Can i Mig weld this? If so what sort of Amps should i be looking at and what prep?

With a crack-free replacement available so cheaply I wouldn't bother, there's one on Ebay now, BIN price £15 plus a fiver postage.
Chances are if you did weld it it would just crack again, if the car's a keeper then replace it.

assuming it's cast iron, you can do it with an arc welder and cast or stainless rods. V the crack with the grinder or a burr, put it in the oven on full for about an hour, weld it, then put it back in the oven and cool it slowly. MIG just won't work, mild steel won't stick to cast!

Or as Woz says, £15 of ebay, probably not worth the effort.
