More years ago than I care to contemplate, I dropped an exhaust valve through the piston crown of my BSA C11G - had a spare valve but couldn't afford a piston. I ended up making up an 1/8th inch dural plate the piston diameter, and bolted it to the piston using countersunk screws bedded in araldite. Ran like that for over as year commuting to collage in London, only changed it when I came to sell it.
