Welding Ali pistons

More years ago than I care to contemplate, I dropped an exhaust valve through the piston crown of my BSA C11G - had a spare valve but couldn't afford a piston. I ended up making up an 1/8th inch dural plate the piston diameter, and bolted it to the piston using countersunk screws bedded in araldite. Ran like that for over as year commuting to collage in London, only changed it when I came to sell it.

Was it quicker with the raised compression?

Not the fastest bike anyway! I did however sculpt the piston into a 'slipper style' to remove about the same mass as the bit I bolted on - must have been about right as the vibration didn't get any worse

would not waste time if cylinderhead , crank, rods valves etc = good ,why risk pending failure from a bodge job on a £100 quid piston "as said "one can get piston/s made to order from inside UK.

must of been a lot of luck coutersunk screws must have functioned A1 as araldite safe operating temps are way lower than cylinder temps found in internal combustion engines.
