Hi all, back on after a long absence - whilst I've been stocking up my garage with a lathe and a welder. A few motorbike projects later, here I am.
I'm building a Nova track car which need a few bits of welding, as well as strengthening for the engine I'm putting in.
What I'm finding id that when I'm welding, particularly to the underside of the car, that its hard to get the weld onto the old metal - ie. my wire is arcing on the new metal panels/strengthening plates, and its difficult to get the weld onto both panels. I suspect this is all in the prep - I don't know if I'm being particular enough in getting the old panels/chassis back to bare metal, which isn't easy when you're lying on the floor under the car, but I've persevered to the extent that I've been trying to get back to shiny metal by any means, even if it means a half hour with the dremel.
Any advice apprecited.
Chris
