Welding advice? Cost etc

Looks to me that the OP would be likely to have a bill of £500-600 to pay someone to get that through an MOT welding wise. Best thing would be to get a pre MOT inspection done on, so its possible to work out whether its worth doing or not. If its a Ford though, i would say its probably going to be scrap, as these rot pretty much everywhere, and some of its not that easy to spot crawling around on the ground with car precariously up on stands.

If it's a track car then don't forget that the risk of impact may be higher than for a road car (or a farm hack!) and the speed of impact may also be higher. I won't comment as I'm probably as inexperienced as the OP but what I would say is bear the wider factors in mind and have a really good poke and prod before effecting a patch repair.

Unless you're trying to be deceptive and stop repairs going on the MOT history a 'pre MOT inspection' is a waste of money... You've got to pay for the MOT afterwards as well.

All the ones I've seen cost more than an actual MOT, and I've had more than one person tell me their car failed the MOT after getting everything on the 'inspection' sorted.

Just take it for an MOT - you get a fortnight for free retest on most things

Unless the OP has a ramp and knows exactly what to check for MOT, then a pre-test is maybe worth considering, as not many people are going to be interested in buying a rotter which has been patched up for MOT?

Discounting the fact that a pre mot, may well mean the OP can sell his rustbucket after spending a fair amount of time and money on it, the main reason for this would be to give him an accurate idea of whats required. In many cases unless its collectable, its simply not worth getting rotters MOTed, as the repair work may cost more than the car is worth.
