Dont take chances with someone elses life, I mean waiting a day or two wont kill you (or anyone else)
But a bodge job on safety critical components IS NOT the way to go, even if it takes a month of Sundays to sort out then that is what it takes.
Vehicle makers spend MILLIONS on research and development on each component, and very often they will have the optimum set-up for that motor.
So why the need to mess about with it? if you havent put a V8 in a rollerskate or made a rocket ship out of a fiesta I dont see the need, PLUS you will have to inform your insurance company.

Totally agree with your comments on bodge jobs ,especially on safety critical components ,this is a common mod to mk1 golfs ,tried and tested ,using oem equipement (usually),which was fitted as standard to a slightly newer model,mk2 , which i would consider a retrofit ,they also increased the size of the master cylinder (which i hope Lowmk1 has fitted at the same time )..Mk1 golfs were made as L/h drive and the servo sits on the passenger side so is operated via a linkage mechanism ,far from ideal ,and leaves the brakes feeling vague ,in my mind its a worthwhile mod to make ,indeed is on my to do list for my golf however i would stick with new standard components rather than bodge the job....Gav

I agree with you B Child, if changing the nipple cured the problem then the fault was with the nipple.↲
With regard to comments about my suggesting the use of JB weld and low heat repair rods:-
Having read through all the replies to this posting, I concluded that we were discussing the bleed nipple and the surrounding area. Several years ago I experienced a similar problem when my motorbike was blown over by the wind, breaking off the bleed nipple and cracking its housing in a couple of places. The remains of the nipple were removed with an extractor and the cracks examined these were found to be about 3mm deep and leaking having broken the lip/top of thd tgread of the female nipple housin.↲
These were ground out with my dremel and back filled with JB weld and a new nipple fitted. To date the repair is fine. There is no way I would advise anyone to attempt to repair any seriously damaged component.↲
