Welding A clutch housing

I have to fix a clutch housing for a mini moto because the nut snapped and i have to weld in the shaft. I was thinking a small 316 weld in the crater then fill it out onto the housing itself.
The housing looks something like except with the nut snapped off.
I would just like to hear what ye all think before I do it as I never did these before.

316 weld? If that is the centrifugal clutch housing it will be mild steel, just check that you have it central and weld away. You can get new ones for £15 ish so I wouldn't worry too much about it. One here for £14.29 free delivery.

Ya its a centrifugal one, the only reason I want to use a 316 weld is that I don't want it to rust. My client is the kinda person who only ever throws something away if it is smahed into dust. As I cant see the rest of the clutch, how high can the weld be? I was thinking about 3mm would be okay.

You'll have to remove some of the yellow chromate coating anyway Slim if you want a half decent weld, so 316 won't stop the job from rusting. It'll make it worse. You should be doing it with 312 anyway if it's on mild steel.

A18 filler and some zinc paint.
