Welding a cap on a splitting wedge

would u realy want to mess on altering and bodging a worn wedge for the cost of 13 quid http://www.tooled-up.com/product/ba...oductlisting&gclid=CPme8PPU_sYCFcfnwgodAMYNeg even if it wore down and u welded an extension on it u would have to let it cool slowly as it would harden it cooling 2 fast and make it brittle and snap. i know because ive done it

I spend more than that on a chinese takeaway!

It's awful stuff. Really big trunk twisted grain all throughout with lots of big limbs throughout. But can't complain got it all for free. I'm saving a big pile of nice straight grained ash for the splitting maul, it's a joy to split.

I think you have the perfect justification to buy a log splitter. They're not ridiculously expensive, compared to your time.

Each hour saved splitting logs using the usual back breaking techniques can be better used drinking beer in a deck chair

I have a hydrocut hycrack splitter which is a beast at splitting narly stuff. But I recently injured my back lifting stuff so splitting these big rounds into more easily lifted sizes to get up onto the splitter.
