I really need some advice commissioning a custom stainless steel box without a top, on a stand.
Approx in mm 400 deep x 500 wide by 200 high.
1. Looking for reliable and reasonably priced suppliers of either 3mm or 4mm thick 304 SS ( preferably German or UK) high quality “cut accurately to size”, dull or UltraBright stainless Steel sheet.
2. The box will have a stand made of 40mm square tube, 3mm wall thickness ( basically 2 H sections with a lower cross bar )
3. Is TIG better than MIG on this material? ... looking for reasonably strong, nice smooth welds, preferably nicely coloured i.e. not grey, that could polish easily. My Audio Stand in 304 SS used 316 filler rod. See photo. NB not looking for this level of “ground back” perfection. Just looking for good welds made with 316 filler, that will not rust if left outside.
4. Looking for a really skilled welder, who is reasonable £ £ s - to weld up these hopefully accurate, pre-cut sheets. Ideally in Berkshire - Surrey But could travel say 35 miles radius from Windsor. When I say reasonable, I appreciate quality demands a fair price.
Could be stitch welded or preferably the full seam ... noting distortion issues ?? ( looking for your advice)
any advice or help appreciated
regards
Peter
