Welders wanted to test!!!

Hi Welderstudy, how many more guys do you need, I will try and convince some of my SCOTTISH colleagues to travel the 600 odd miles to London as the english guys seem to have no interest in trying to live a bit longer or think your study may have ulterior motives

Linc, referring back to your first post. You detailed how procedure was done to take samples from each nostril. Was sample tool used to scrape away a tissue sample, or swap like wipe?

Reason I ask is, perhaps study group can make up and post out self sampling kit for folks to take their own sample, then post back, similar to bowel cancer self test kit?

A sampling tool was used to take a scraping, i think there is a timescale she has to process sample, I'm sure welderstudy will confirm, but that was already suggested on Uk welder, I think she said it would take 6 months to get ethical approval and then they would have to ship the required equipment to the new location which would be complicated and costly. I can't see what the problem is, the day I was in a lad from south London came in, 1/2 an hour on the tube, he was probably there and back in a couple of hours.

We need at least 5 more people if not more. The more we have the more convincing the data

The sampling is a clinical procedure and for scientific, ethical, safety and insurance reasons only myself or a trained member of our research team can carry out the sampling here at Queen Mary in London. The sample is taken from a particular part of the nose and gets processed straight away under sterile laboratory conditions so is completely useless otherwise (so definitely no post!).

Aye, it did cross my mind there would be various reasons sampling had to be a one to one, procedure.

Just been down to the Royal London to see Reetika, literally took 15 minutes, 5 for the actual test which is pain free just tiggles really. For a good cause and your compensated so more welders should get down there.

Hi again,

I created a new thread about the new study on this site which has now been closed due to a member complaint. No one seems to want to talk to me or explain what the problem is. I'm a bit concerned that there are some misconceptions about what we're trying to do and would love to put people's minds at rest. Can you guys as regular users and members of the site do anything?

Hi Welderstudy, I'm sorry and surprised to hear this, as someone who took part in your testing i can't see why any genuine welders would be against this. I don't see how there can be misconceptions as this has been well covered on this site and the Uk welder site. I would hope there is not some sinister reason for your latest thread being closed, maybe one of the moderators or Malcolm can shed some light on why your post was removed.??????????????
