Welder repairs

My elder son has had a couple of big transformer sets built for him by Tec-arc. They are very good, If that is the decided repair route I could bring it back when i visit next week as its near London, Tec-arc is only 50 miles from me based in York.

I'm a bit closer than that Gordon, wouldn't mind waving a meter at it for you.
Was it you that bought a massive Panasonic (?) TIG set from a factory in Thornaby some years back, needed transformers rewinding and god knows what as it was made to run on some obscure supply...?

Hi, Ian, Yes on both counts, I bought a Panasonic tig set from Lithgows auction at Stokesley, they must have been at least 30 of them for sale and they all got sold, Only thing that would run was the fan, Turns out they were 200v from a Japanese factory, I took it to tec-arc, they had it a little while but managed to reconfigure it to work without resorting to rewinding anything, I think they charged me £80-00, which i thought was a good price , It was a cracking machine, Adjustments for everything, Don't know what happened to all the rest, Tec-arc did tell me that one or two more were brought to them after mine, I think that the chap i sold it to still has it,

Just a follow up on this Machine, Son did take off the cover and discovered a burned out transistor thingy, Got about 5 new ones from China for a couple of quid, I went to see him last week and took some stick welding gear, Worked great burning rods, No gas for the tig side, but switched to DC tig and stuck a 2.4 stick rod into the tig collet and it seemed to be ok too,

The old tig torch to electrode holder trick, got me out of trouble on the odd occasion.
