Welder repairs

My son has just got a non working AC/DC tig set, It came from a school and is reputed to have had little use, However i think it is one of those chinese models a few years old that had lots of knobs for adjusting settings, includes a pedal and was told the school had paid around £3000 when new, I will try to get more make and model details later, Does anybody had recommendations for a decent repairer in the Uxbridge area,

Take the cover off and check all the spade connectors some of the Chinese welders they come loose .

No where near 3k Gordon.
They are usually sold for 3-500 and prone to fail. Sorry that's not what you want to hear but unless you can fix it for under £100 it's not worth thinking about.

You would be amazed what goes on and what kit it chosen in schools.
Corporate buyers buying the cheapest kit they can find then whacking on huge markup.

Thanks for the replies, I know ( from the horses mouth )My son was working there when his "boss" bought it. £3000 is ridiculous but that is what the school did pay for it, Typical of unscrupulous people selling to heads of departments that don't understand what they are buying, I will find out if any part of it works, might be able to still stick weld, do you think that might be a possibility ? It was a freebie so nothing ventured up to now,

Tech Arc will most likely be the cheapest fix. They have been bringing in that model for years and know them inside out.

Bright spark, I think they were base in Harrogate Supposed to be electronic experts specialising in welding/plasma repairs etc, No fix no fee.

My elder son has had a couple of big transformer sets built for him by Tec-arc. They are very good, If that is the decided repair route I could bring it back when i visit next week as its near London, Tec-arc is only 50 miles from me based in York.

I have though and had good service from them, they bought a very dead draper tig set back to life and its performed perfectly ever since, i use it for site repairs so it dosn't exactly have an easy life.
There is a thread on here somewhere about it.
