There are 3 servers that run the control system on the Beryl Alpha oil platform called Penny, Dianne and Anne (Penny is one of our engineers, Dianne and Anne were/are admin).

"I just need to take Anne down for half an hour...."

When I started here there was an isolated Unix system whose server was called Bo-Peep and the workstations were Sheep-1, Sheep-2 and so-on. There was also a little VMS setup with servers called Huey, Duey and Louie though I believe those were quite common. Nowadays things like that tend to be unusual as the names are more widely visible.

Customers, the worst part of any job......

Having said that I was treated to a full on home made sit down meal on Saturday, proper Indian food that's about a million times better than any takeaway

Indian people are like that they can take offence on a refusal it's part of there culture to offer food i presume you was working in there house
and yes good food not like our takeaway rubbish

Used to have names like that. Not any more though. I built the new infrastructure with purely functional names. Makes supporting several hundred servers much easier.
