Welder for Skips/Roro patching

Hello forum, I got a few skips & Roro bins which need holes patching in them, I was wondering what type of machine would be most suitable for this kind of a job.
Some requirements:
- I only got access to a normal plug.
- Total newbie with plenty of material willing to make mistakes and learn, so could do with something easier to use
- Budget wise around £500-600

Any inverter arc welding set that will give you at least 140 amps. If you can stop the wind blowing the shielding gas away a mig would work too

gasless would be an option too ,,, but stick is the way I would go , after all its not Muliner Park Ward , so no one will complain when its painted .

depends on what the local companies supply ,,, you buy a warranty and they lend you a welder to go with it .

Id probably look at quality used that takes a 15kg spool, but If it must be new and within budget id probably look at something like this Lincoln bester 200-s , edited to say if your handy with stick theres some decent little machines out there like the jasic arc 200 and the esabs within your budget. I have run an esab yet but love my little jasic

I'd be looking for a set the would let you do MIG and Stick, got the best of both worlds then

Rtech 180 mig is in your budget and is a very good stick welder too.

You will have to expand your budget to include gas, wire, rods and ppe.

But if it's just for skips a decent inverter that can use 7018 rods would be adequate.

Never seen a repaired skip with decent welds. Always rusty plate snotted over a rusty edged hole with little to no prep so pretty immaterial

My mates a fabricator and used to build skips for a local company. Basically had the power and wire speed flat out and near enough jogged up and down!

Welding skips is going to be a patch on top of a patch, I dont think a normal plug in mig will do the job. Stick will be too slow. Ideally want a decent supply, a mig welder/ wfu with long leads, park up the power supply unit and wander about with the wfu.

for 5 or 6 hundred quid ,,,, and all the space and time ,,, it will be a Chinese inverter , half a box of old rods a knackered extension llead and a mask with no headband , and a lorry driver crying that your holding them back ,,,, [ ask me how I know]

PPE is most important for me not worth hurting myself for a few skips, overall I'm looking at patching holes in the sidewalls etc not the really thick stuff.

I'd push and see if you can get access to a 3ph supply... or a 32a 240 supply.

You'd pick up an old scruffy 3ph mig easy in that price bracket.

I'd be looking in the region of 300a... old transformer based set

Stick will be painfully slow if the patches are any decent size, and planning to do it with any regularity.
