welder broken

hiya got a clarke en 90 welder was welding on my mini via a jenny and the jenny cut out and smoke came from the welder only a little bit but found this burnt out in side would this stop it turning on as it will not turn on at all now im gonna order a new one if it could be the problem ??????

That device (capacitor?) burning out is probably a sympton of another fault, perhaps a rectifier going down.

You can check the rectifiers with a multimeter on the ohms range, they should conduct one way only. Test them out of circuit.

...did the capacitor go short circuit and pop a fuse somewhere perhaps?

Just had a look at the circuit - looks like it's a suppressor accross the output of the transformer.

That is not a capacitor, it is an MOV.

Most likely the generator voltage was not stable and the MOV was triggered by too high a voltage.

It is a MOV that protects against over voltage spikes,usually they use a 60-90 volt one.
You must have put far more than 220 volts to your welder.
It may have burnt out your contactor/relay transformer.
