Welded sills and internal coating options?

I've had to weld up the sil on our car for mot.

I plan to spray "something" inside it, but my fear is that, if it ever needs welding again, any oil based "stuff" is just going to be a real problem.

I'm considering thinking some epoxy to maximum datasheet value and pumping that in, in the same way as you would some oil based "stuff". Sure it would burn with welding but nowhere close to how a load of black under seal would.

I guess I'll brush paint the outside with epoxy or the like, and then put the plastic trim back on.


So it's really just a question of what to pump inside?

Does it leave enough *lack* of residue that it does not catch light if it ever needs to be welded again?

like a mist of wd40 and i dont think its flammable anyway

I've welded cars where I've previously sprayed anti-corrosion stuff, cars where the original wax was still there.

And yes, they occasionally catch fire - but it's not an inferno, it doesn't spread to the rest of the car in a nano-second. A blast of compressed air, a squirt from a fairy bottle of water, and it's out. Carry on welding.

The stuff I'm most wary off is internal sound deadening, carpets, trims, seats etc - burns well. I emptied a halon extinguisher, a watering can and finally turned a hosepipe on the bulkhead of a Fiesta mk2 a long time ago - then spent a long time untangling the frazzled wiring loom behind the dash . . .
