This whole weld thru paint thing leaves me a bit puzzled
We all make such an effort to thouroughly clean the area to be welded - we grind away all the surface rust, we scrape off paint, we wash off the area with solvent to remove paint, underseal, and oil and then we tosh a load of paint just where we want to weld!
Just because the weld thu primer has some sort of conductive properties, and won't readily catch fire doesen't mean that it makes for a great weld. Does it?
Surely ANY contaminants in the weld are going to have an adverse affect on the weld quality!
Or am I thinking too much about this?
I suspect you're spot on! Bought a can of zinc rich weld through primer. My welding isn't great at the best of times and I need all the help I can get. Weld through primer was absolutely no help, can't beat clean metal - Lesson learnt!!!!!!!
