I plan on building a duelling tree for use at our western shooting range. The target plates will be 150 x 10mm EN8 discs and I need to fix a 150mm length of 40 x 10mm flat to the edge to form a lollipop shape. With a duelling tree both target faces are used so I can't weld the flat to the rear face of the disc,it has to be welded to the edge so advice on prepping the joint much appreciated. I had thought about fixing the two pieces with 6mm dowel pins in addition to the weld? In use the discs will be hit by projectiles travelling at up to 1200 ft/sec with kinetic energy of 1000 ftlb but they are designed to swivel when hit so should not have to absorb all the energy.
