As long as there is a non-return valve between the receiver and the welded portion, no explosion or rapid discharge should be able to take place. As the OP said, there is also another cylinder with its valves between therefore making it safer still. The volume of air in question is quite high but the pressure is low. I would have attempted to make a new flange & pipe before resorting to epoxies even though they are very good.

I went off to bed as Im in a different timezone to you guys, and I had to take little one to school today which means a 7am start.
Thanks for the support though ratty, you got the fact that it was the low pressure link pipe and not the main tank, the others were giving sterling advice had I been welding up a hole in the main tank and I guess they had to assume I was like mr photoshopped transit!
It would probally cost 1000e to get one of similar size and capacity over here, and theres no guarantee that the ebay ones are much better, so rescue is worth doing.
The weld that had the really big gaps looks to have been done years and years ago, so with the extra strength of the insert etc I'm sure itll be fine from a total failure point of view. Ive used araldite in hotter environments and its got a bit upset in the past but maybe I was just a bit impatient so checked and its good to 175f!

Morning Fluffy Sorry the post got a bit hi-jacked! When you say 'araldite' I get worried, the epoxy family is huge - araldite is a brand name (like 'hoover') and they make a whole lot of different adhesives including PU's acrylics & methacrylates for lots of different applications. Have a look here http://www.silmid.com/araldite/adhesives.htm If RS products aren't available to you (where are you? France I seem to think - put it in your profile!) try googling filled epoxies. JB weld would do but I think there are better ones. have a look at the details of the various filled epoxies in the link I posted, some are described as 'replacing welding' many are metal filled (inc steel, bronze, aluminium, stainless & titanium) and heat tolerances are variable. Some epoxies get very soft at high temperatures, others can get brittle and age badly (especially if exposed to UV).

Anyway...I'll get off my hobbyhorse but before I do, just to drive home the point, I have used epoxy casting resins for years and have tested dozens from different manufacturers as I need special characteristics (cure time, strength, viscosity) yet I still have to import two different casting epoxies from the States as I have yet to find an equivalent in the UK. Your application is pretty simple and there should be several choices but it's worth getting one that is designed for metal, heat etc. Have fun!
