Maybe some people just aren't cut out for this welding lark and have a sort of negative talent, like a gardener having brown fingers?

Some people simply can't solder. I can't fold shirts.

Mabey your suplier seen you comming and sold you a gouging rod you disent say if it was the same rod you had been using for every weld

have you tried reversing the earth lead to the opposite,might help.just a thought.
sounds to me that they might be cast welding rods you are trying to weld wrong metal with.
