Spinning off from the thread discussing our hobbies and neighbours, what's the thinking on the best way to deal with a new neighbour ? I will be getting one soon.
As I live in Oxfordshire (not the friendliest county in the land) the standard form in this village seems to be to ignore them until random events leads to a first encounter and then be nice and smiley. I hear stories from elsewhere that seems to suggest people pay a quick visit to new neighbours to try get off on the right foot. I've been in this house for nearly 30 years and *never* had a good neighbour on that side; there have been 5 lots in that time! One was an ex-policemen who put up the tallest fence that was legal, so that ended the "through the edge" chats and another was a Man U supporter!
