Weird Screw - Idenfitication help needed!

Hi All,

Been asked to source some of these for work, but I'll be jiggered if I can work out what the bugger is.

Is what it looks like, I reckon it's a M3/M4 thread, but unusually it's not got any thread for the last 4/5mm of the screw.

Has anyone ever come across these? I need to order some, but not enough to justify having them made really.

Hmm, could be. Pilot Point/Dog Head. The ones i've found don't seem long enough tho.

I've always known them as pilot point pan head screws - which might narrow down the search.

When a worked for Nissan we used loads of them think the name of the supplier on the box was bulleten or bulletin try looking them up on google

It looks like the sort of bolts used on some car door hinges and other bits...they would be hex head though not pan. Maybe have a look at some automotive fixings to get a name?

Briggs and Stratton used a similar screw to hold the carburettor to the fuel tank one the older 3.5/4hp vertical crank engines . They were fairly fine thread so being Yankee I guess they may have been UNF. The part number was 93440

Used a lot in automotive industry for speed of assembly, the plain part "finds" the threaded hole easier when using power tools.

That's why we used them doer oils put them in with the air wrenches. You could use a normal bolt with same thread if speed if speed is not an issue.
