Weed removal

Got this lovely patch of weeds that I need rid of before they self seed , I've no idea what there called have tried pulling some up but soon lost the will to live
I don't really want to spray them cos of bees etc
Would a burner do the trick ? On a budget so can't spend much ....

The plan is to create a garden area , lawn /patio. And wild flower area ( not these damned weeds) so don't want them coming back as there literally everywhere

If I had small children I'd happily pay them to pull them up but I haven't !

spray them with roundup /after a couple of hours its dry and inactive to pets or anything else . once u turn the soil over u will bring a fresh set of seeds to the surface and they will grow just thought id say sicken u off

yea works perfectly even on horsetail but nothing will grow there after u have done it

for how long ,,, and what sort of concentration ,, if it gets rid of horse tail Im in
bet it wont kill Catoniastra though , nothing short of a small low yield nuke will harm that stuff.

dunno if it kills the roots as there deep but it certainly drops what has come through the soil

Before any more of the "Treat it with chemicals" brigade offer their myopic suggestions , leave it as it is.

It won't cost you a penny, it will provide a home for many thousands of insects, invertebrates, and small mammals, which in turn will provide food for many more animals further up the food chain. And the pollinators will take advantage of the available food supply, which in turn benefits the human race, because without pollinators we're basically stuffed.

Or you could spray it with chemicals and pretend that you're not damaging the planet...

Ill spray it with chemicals ,,, the miles of hedge rows can do all of the above , its only the bits that I have to keep looking tidy that cause grief , the rest can gladly go wild ,,,

Ammonium Sulphamate is amazing stuff, used to be in root out before they changed to the evil glyphosate!

You're not meant to use it as weedkiller anymore but it works and breaks down into nitrogen and sulphur which is great.

Doesn't smell as good as vinegar though :-/

Thats a new idea , wont it slow absorption , i sprayed about half an acre last eve ,,, just about sun down as usual , never ever have I had a problem with it not working , two weeks time everything its mist has touched will be gone.
Where did you get the wall paper idea , just out of curiosity , in case Ive been missing a trick or two.

Thats a new idea , wont it slow absorption , i sprayed about half an acre last eve ,,, just about sun down as usual , never ever have I had a problem with it not working , two weeks time everything its mist has touched will be gone.
Where did you get the wall paper idea , just out of curiosity , in case Ive been missing a trick or two.

washing up liquid makes it stick as well generaly only needed if the foliage is waxy and it wont absorb

I tried vinegar and salt last year. Maybe I was doing it wrong but it was a complete waste of time and money. I go round our place with a roofing torch every couple of weeks now. It’s the most weed free we’ve been for years. Spraying nasty chemicals round here is a no no.

Rosebay willowherb.
Its too late now - its already seeded, so anything chemical that breaks down will only kill this years.
Cut it down with a scythe, clear all the rubbish/bricks out from the undergrowth, mow it regularly.
It'll give up before long.
But tbh, i'm with @4String. At least wait until later in the year.

As Egg says that's Rose Bay Willow Herb, it's already gone to seed so you've left it a bit late to do anything about it. Hawk moth caterpillars love it so I'd encourage some of it just for them.

Just something one of the old boys that works for us swears by, anything waxy is problematic so adding a thickener will keep more of it on the leaf/needle.

This product is licensed and is only supposed to be sold to ticketed oppos but I know it gets sold quite freely on the net. It improves a bit year on year and the last lot seems to be quite effective. Rainstay is probably the most important element of the product.

ah , I just pick my spraying times carefully , but then Im not bound by commercial pressures as to when weeds have to be sprayed , just round my own houses so I do it at will ,,,

As with anything including JK, keep hitting it with a mower and it will eventually give up.
