Webhosting prices

I help to run a small music club & as with all similar undertakings we run a small website to promote our activities. We maintain the site using Serif webplus, all we pay for is the webhosting.
Some years ago having previously paid around £35 pounds a year for the priveledge of hosting our site, we were presented with a bill of over £200 for similar hosting. This I queried & discovered we were on their premium package, virtually unlimited number of websites & email forwarding. I never remember signing up for that & when I complained they offered me a business package which was limited to max of 3 websites at a cost of £43 for the year & was told a second year would at a similar price. Well the second year is approaching fast & they want £86. I have again complained only to be told my first year was half price, which I am positive was never mentioned.
I am beginning to believe this switch selling is part of their business model & I not very pleased.
Can anybody recommend an alternative, hopefully based on personal experience.

Have a look at Namecheap. No idea what their package prices are like, but never had a problem with them for registration etc.

Change to heart internet. No shoddy practices like that at all and price is reasonable. Customer service has always been good too. Been with them for years now and have put a few friends onto them.

Xilo.net, been with them seven or eight years. I pay 60 pound for a year's hosting. The hosting runs three sites and can take as many as will run on it.

Customer service is why I stay with them. Absolutely fantastic and cannot rate them highly enough for it.

Reliability is good as is performance.

Remember that the domain name is extra though

I will be checking out all of the above, already have the domain names but thankfully there has been no huge hike in the registration price. I’ve been through the process of changing hosts a few times now & it’s a real chew on, each host seems to have a slightly different set up when your uploading your files. Cynically I suspect this might be done to dissuade you from changing hosts & create a captive audience. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I got an email from my host (1&1) the other day, saying they were increasing the price to, i think, £5.99 per month.

I thought i paid about £30 per year, so i dug out the old billing (yep, £32 per year) and called them up. Got India, who told me my old package was discontinued or something, but this new package allowed me to have 50,000 email addresses (or something equally as useless)

Transferred to retentions (uk) - chap said he did not understand what they were up to with the packages, and added a lifetime discount to my new package (the one with the 50,000 email addresses) to take it down to the cost of my old package.

Took one phone call. I was still irritated (less so, as the chap on the uk line also seemed to think it was foolish), but at least it was sorted.

1and1 have the highest security which is what business should be focusing on what with the big penalties that are being introduced with the new GDPR regulations.
Most of the big companies charge ~£100.

Reliable and good customer service on the very limited times i had had to contact with them.

I have had a few sites with Forthhosting.co.uk for six or seven years, I bought the first lot of hosting
and name for 99p on ebay! Prices are OK and if you ask Alex anything you often get an email
back within an hour or so.
