looking a for a decent site with weather maps on, just as an interest really

Try www.metcheck.com seams to go from basic forecast to fairly advanced. forecast is fairly accurate for our area.

Round here I always use the MWIS site - tells you how nasty weather will be on the tops.

A guy 3 doors up from me runs a local weather station, very professional looking. All sorts of info including plane and shipping tracking data. probably tied into other hobby weather enthusiasts, Check out his website on google just type in Newlands Weather.

cheers, will have a look at those. I mainly want it to try and find a more accurate way of seeing what the weather will be like when I want to go out to the farm as the local weather is pretty much always wrong

This is probaby the best of the lot, used a lot by paraglider pilots and other flying types http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ covers all of the bases, to get a detailed local forcast type the place name in the box marked get forecast.
I have looked at loads of sites and this is the one I always use.
the met office is pretty good as well but more effort to use.

BBC weather - "the area you want". I do this via the nearest town or even village and its very good on a next day basis. Use it constantly and just checked out a few mins ago for a Goose flight on the Marsh at Dawn. 48 hrs is normally its accuracy limit but some systems are very hard to predict

Just tried the local weather site that I mentioned in an earlier post, Not there any more.. I will use the one recommended by Chunco in future.

well checked local weather yesterday and they reckon its raining now...which is quite impressive as I'm bone dry.

the wire chunk put up us good, as are the others, seem a lot more accurate. I think the local weather just go off whatever the weather in Cardiff is going to be

Depends on how far from Cardiff you are and the topography, the BBC forcast will get darn close to the spot you live. I live between two villages and they generally put out different forcasts for both, likewise I used to shoot the Dee Estuary and the English and Welsh side often had different weather and got different forcasts (used that a few times to my advantage). Short range localised forcasts are generally very accurate now hour by hour (never 100% but I might give them 90%)

If you can get your head round the interface this can be a really accurate site:

We use it for Paragliding forecasts and it is the only site we know that will give a accurate forecast on the north coast of Somerset as the the Bristol Channel plays havoc with the prevailing winds!
And this should interest you Chunkolini, it also predicts Thermal Updraft.
