The trouble with trying to forecast the weather with any degree of accuracy is that it is basically a chaotic system, with many influences, and cause effect relationships where small changes can lead to large scale consequences.
Watching a forest on a hillside the other day, trying to see if there was any clear wind-induced pattern in the movement of the branches from one part of the forest to another, I was awestruck by how the process seemed almost totally random.
Occasionally, when the underlying atmospheric conditions are relatively stable, it is possible to make reasonably accurate predictions for a good few days ahead.

I've been using yr.no (and their mobile app) for years and have found it very reliable.
I look at 3 and pick the best!

It’s odd that most people involved with weather predicting say the opposite?
I’d struggle to really recall weather forecasts back in the 90’s (obviously I do vaguely remember them getting it badly wrong in 87) as I was young(ish) and not that interested in such things but as I’ve got older and have taken more notice I think it’s currently as good as I can ever remember - certainly the forecast for a couple of days ahead is usually ok, any more than that and I think there is a big element of (very educated) guesswork and previous experience that they have to rely on…

Its funny how may of you say bbc or met office when I specifically said they were NOT accurate.
Im not talking weeks ahead just a few days. They regularly say on a Thursday for instance, rain on a Sunday, and by the time it gets here its dry (or vice versa.)
A few weeks ago the bbc said that the next two weeks would be dry. Because of the time of year I thought this would be wrong and it was, the forcast changed and it rained on and off for 10 days out of the two weeks!

As a paraglider pilot the weather has the capacity to kill me very easily so I use lots of apps when planning to go out
First if staying local I look out the window at the clouds thats good for local forecasts, you can spot fronts coming in quite a few hours in advance.
Then go to XC weather easy and quick https://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/sennybridge
Then look at the BBC and met office and windfinder https://www.windfinder.com/forecast/cockett_swansea one of my favourites
and have a look at the synoptic charts https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weathe...#?tab=surfacePressureColour&fcTime=1421712000 I can sometimes read these quite accurately
Then I throw a kitten out the window and see what happens

Try puppies they are more accurate
I keep an eye generally on what is coming from TV/net. I used to do a lot of high wind windsurfing and you soon get to know roughly what will make for wet/dry/windy weather in your own neck of the woods. We walk a guide dog and to avoid being drenched suddenly (sometimes in the time it takes to cross a car park here in Cornwall where you can go from dry to drowned rat in seconds)! We use a free app called 'Weather & radar'. It shows an animation of the next 15 minutes rain echoes. It is amazingly accurate and we sometimes sit in the car until a big shower has passed, or can see that one will just miss us. I do have a weather station up on the roof which is interesting when you live in such an exposed place.
