For now the Cebora is working (touch wood, fingers crossed etc).

New kit turned up today

Took a few mins to get the wire speed and power set up again. Including about 3 wondering why I had no arc - then realized I'd unplugged the earth cable from the welder when I was repairing it George Bush moment.

Much much easier with a helmet and the auto darkening is a real bonus. Can hold the torch two handed now.

Welds look better too:

I still need a lot of practice and a new torch liner - can hear the wire sticking and then I get a load of pops till it settles down again.

Anyhow, good enough to be going on with and for welding scrap.

I have got a Murex 3mtr torch. Would be real gratefull if you have got a liner (or even a whole torch in better condition - this one leaks gas everywhere)

You'll probably cry, but I scrapped about dozen Murex harnesses earlier this year when we changed to Binzel at work!
Will have a look for liners tomorrow.

have you ever seen an artist paint, they use a stick or in some case their arm thus

I weld the arm method as most of my lines are small, 6 - 10 inches and this gives me better support than two handed.

still not getting full penetration yet in places. I can be hard as everything looks great from the weld side but its just coloring the metal on the backside. little bit slower maybe - experiment out, the speed feed can make such a difference

If I go slower this will increase the penetration, but add more filler to the weld and make the weld larger as well? Or should I compensate for that by making the weld 'wider' and spreading the filler out a bit?

If I turn down the wire speed won't it end up being too slow and causing burn back?

These were done with the power set at 3 of 6 (180A max welder).

how thicks the steel? look at the home pages for here and you will find a speed and power guide - I'll look later but off to record some drums for a local metal band all week end so just guerrilla raids at the moment.

The metal is 2mm. I'm not sure of the minimum power rating on the Cebora - I know the max is 180A, so guessing at a min of 25A then according to the settings calculator I should be using either setting 3 or 4. I've tried both and with 3 the weld bead sits quite high so I guessed it wasn't quite enough. I'll try it again with a slower wire feed.

That metal looks suspiciously like it`s galvanised, try cleaning it off, that will help no end. What gas are you using, I suspect CO2, but looks like your flow rate could do with upping a bit. Looks like your getting there though.

I'm using CO2 with the flow set to about 10LPM at the guage, but the torch needs replacing and leaks gas at other the euro connector end and the business end. I'll up the flow a bit more and see what effect it has.

I think those peices are galvanised.

The increase in gas flow had a big effect - much nicer, more stable arc. Seems to work best on power setting 4.

Strange I can see them here. Unless Explorer has catched them locally. There may be some missing from my posts as I only have limited online space (on Yuku) so have to delete the older ones. Have now moved to googles pic storage so a 1GB limit there.

There are more upto date ones in the thread "Better?"

Just did a forced reload (control-F5) which makes IE actually reload the page for real and not used any catched data and sure enough the pics have gone. As I said, I probably deleted them as I'm low on space. Will see if I can edit them back into existance.

Anyone turning this thread up in a search in the future will be disappointed to find that without the photos (which will have long since been deleted again) the thread is of almost no use to them at all

Perhaps consider uploading the photos to the forum instead so they can remain permanently?
