Ways to remove a plant growing on chimney without climbing on roof?

if he was local id go remove it for 25 quid half an hours work . id shovel sh..t for a fiver if I had to

problem is most dont want to even pay that, its only a plant that wants pulling out or a slate putting back in or cleaning the gutter out only take you 5 mins to do

im the closest one dont know if hes got a spare set of ladders as i have the roof hooks for them

After being let down twice by a roofer/builder, I decided to think of some creative ways to remove this 4 year old plant myself without climbing on the roof.

Apparently, if the roots get in to the mortar joints, the plant could ultimately bring the chimney down. Hence, I don't want to leave the problem in abeyance.

Does not the 4 year old bit not classify as abeyance? I can dig out the phone number for the bloke who did our roof work if you're still looking for someone?

I guess it depends on the access but you can hire trailed cherry pickers, other option is a local farmer with a telehandler.

Fairly disappointing so far, no suggestion of buying aluminium stock, a cnc lathe, a bandsaw, a punch and a tig welder to make a ladder.

Also no recommendation to only use Petzl harness and sign up for a work at height course to include PPE inspection so you can keep said harness in test.

The top end of my exention ladder at gutter level is as far a I dare climb. So far I have tried a high powered pump action water gun (from the toy store) filled with sodium chloride weed killer. This failed due to the water jets not reaching the plant.

Plan B is several 2 meter long garden canes taped together end to end with a mother of a sea fishing hook taped on the end of the canes.

New creative suggestions or amendments to my existing ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry mate you need something stronger than Sodium Chloride - that is what you put on your chips!

Get Sheffield Council to do it, they'll chop anything down that remotely resembles a tree.

See I wasn't thinking setting chimney on fire...set a big roaring fire in the firegrate and let the heat rise and thereby kill the tree from the bricks heating up and thus dehydrating the plant...however in this rain you'd prob just get steam....

And if it's a Triffid, you'd be in real trouble

The way this thread is going, you may be just as well to burn the house down and claim on the insurance, you can then by another house without the plant growing out the chimney.

We could try all of these, including sending a wife up. We'd get some good Y tubes clips filming all these brilliant ideas. One problem that I have actually thought of is a wife-I don't have one. Does it have to be a wife? Cos (still with my creative hat on), Rotherham is only 7 miles from the Sheffild red light area, and work is work right?

Could always use a pump spray backpack with extension accessary for long reach on the gun. It's how my dad used to spray the tall fruit trees.
