ways to improve penetration

hello guys, i was wondering are there any methods that i can improve penetration, because i can get a neat weld but often i have ground off a weld due to it having to loook better and found i havent got as much penetration as i would like, can anyone help?

You could try - bigger wire, different gas, wire speed, speed of travel, different arc length / torch angle. Oh yeah and more power

Try doing some test pieces and play about with your settings. Bend test or break them until you get the required penetration.

its the workks welder, and like 3mm to 12mm

As Wozzaaah says knowing what welder, wire size, gas, and material would help. So only a general answer. Grind your plate clean, scale can reduce or stop penetration. Preheat will help. Use bigger wire and more power. If you can't up the power/wire size, try putting the plate on a slope and welding up the slope or weld vertically up, it may not look as neat as down hand but you should get good penetration.

downhand is what welding flat is called not welding vertically down

i will find out what size wire and what macine and stuff and i normally weld from right to left in a straight line
