Waterproof Lightweight walking jacket

There seems to be many manufacturers that have High Point in their line I might come across one suitable.

Indeed, it was a bit of a disappointment not to be able to find the same, or similar jacket using a web search. The one in question is made from some sort of rubberised fabric. The rubberising is exposed and visible in the hood, and the seams are taped and fully bonded to the main hood material. The jacket body is lined. Photo below.

I have had a mountain equipment jacket for over 20 years still going strong. I do prefer the Barbour wax jackets but I find them uncomfortable in the summer as mines a wooden lined heavy weight one.

I have the monsoon smock, never had an issue with it holding water. Is yours the moleskin type soft shell?

Its warm, and comfortable as a work coat, but the soft outer layer holds water and takes an age to dry, cuffs are often damp after 12 hours hanging over the radiator in the porch. But as a work coat its faired as well if not better than previous options.

Cheap I would say Ridgeline.

If you want to spend 400 quid plus then look at a company called Fortis they make gear here in the UK and also carry out repairs if your gear gets damaged had a look at this stuff at the game fair and it looked really good quality

Why not the wax jacket? Treated myself to a new one last year and love it

I have used wax jackets for many years, they were perfect for field sports etc but I walk several miles a day in all winds and weather so its better for me to have a waterproof outer shell and layer up as required.

But the best jacket i have ever had was 70 quid from the Midlands clothing company at a country show. I have stood for a full day in the fowlest weather imaginable and stayed home dry.

Major issue is stuff being too short so your legs just get soaked by the run off.

That's exactly the problem I have. I walk to the pub, and if the rain comes on heavily the water runs off into the top of my trousers, where it then soaks upwards and downwards. I'm happy with the coat itself (it was from Mountain Warehouse a few years ago), but not the length of it. But I don't want to have a massive long coat because they're too much if it doesn't rain. I bought a long thin raincoat from AliExpress with the intention of carrying it in my pocket just in case it rained - I could then put it on over my normal coat for the extra length. But it's too big when it's rolled up, so it becomes a pain to have with me. If I could rely on the weather forecast I'd know when to take it, but I can't.

Thats where the new Zealand styles are best as they are long and long arms. I'm 6ft 4 and they come down and cover my bum and they sit long enough in the arm to cover the top of my hand and wrist, this may seem trivial if you haven't experienced it but it makes a massive difference to staying warm in the rain if your veins on your wrist are covered and plenty of jackets just don't do this for me, even some expensive ones.
Another option that I had that was brilliant was the harkie smock. Really really hard wearing and breathable. I didn't initially think of it as they are high vis so wouldn't count it as a walking/ countryside coat but seem to remember they have plain colours now.
This I would put above any country clothing brand as you aren't paying a fashion premium. So you get a lot more for your money. Also clever features like an extended bum pad to keep you dry but giving better mobility than one that is the same length all the way round.

That's a shame. I've got Ridgeline and did fancy a swazi as well as the blokes I worked with in new Zealand favored them and the stoney Creek stuff. My favorite is still my swandrii but no good in heavy rain.

Swazi is much better than Ridgeline, had them both. Still got my Swazis, Ridgeline got demoted to the bin after a few months. The one I had made you sweat like a pig too

How old is your SWAZI? I had a good look over the new stuff at local stockist and I don't think it's worth three times the cost of ridgeline. The seams were not even quality. When it was made in NZ I could agree with the price, now it's been offshored I think it's wrong.

Yep ridgeline does make you sweat but I got my Smock for £120 in the sale. The SWAZI is £389.
