OK... Our septic tanks are cement/concrete and waterproof. Mate built a ferro cement boat that held the water out for 30 yrs skin was 20mm. No special adatives, but my brother, when I asked about thickness to cover rebar, said 20mm, if worried, just add a bit more cement to the mix to improve the water proofing. He does such things for real, currently consulting on the Forth Crossing.

Yeah quality tanking slurry is good. I just chucked away half a buckets worth in a clear out, sometimes you need to make space. It's not that smoothest finish though.
At the end of the day the cheapest and least time consuming method is to put the additive in you concrete mix- just make sure it is really well mixed and no air bubbles when laid.
thought of a plan...
I've got some thick formica boards, I'll build everything I need with those, use them as forums and then just leave them in, they'll last forever - makes concreting over the top of everything much easier, no need for any pre-cast concrete etc. and it'll mean it's all tied in together well
(I'll stick some additive in it too)
then I'll add a bit of that perforated land drain stuff around them, and fill in on top with pea gravel - so if there is any water leaking out it'll work through the gravel to the land drain pipe and then off down the drain... should stop the ground being washed away :-)

What are all these tanks/chambers etc that people have for? What happens when they fill up?
they're all in a line linked to each other, it's to stop any fat/grit/meat going down the main drain
we need special permission to be connected to the mains drains, and the waterboard come take samples of the water going down the main drain to see how dirty it is and then bill us accordingly
a bit off topic but... since the big vaux brewery in sunderland closed down we have the oldest running permission northumbrian water has on record :-)
