What you want is something like this, turn the internal stat down and it will warm up reasonably quickly

I have one already. A big Lavor unit. It does not even fit around the side of my house without moving 3x classic cars out of the carport first.

Also it is very powerful and I only use it to Degrease engine blocks and diffs etc.

What I would like here is

WARM

Water. So I want to temper the cold mains water when my washing cars during winter.

In addition to this the only other function I would like is the ability to have warm / hot water to fill wash buckets with directly.

So say 30c water to washer and more like 50 - 60c water to fill a couple of buckets when starting out.

put an outside tap in on to the hot water circuit pipe inside

So to recap I want an electronic water heater not only to fill wash buckets but also to use warm / hot water to clean my cars during winter. (I have a few cars)

I have a Kranzle washer which I use for my cars. It is rated for a water temp of max 60C intake.



I don't want a water cylinder etc. Something instant and compact. I will be putting in a 32amp welder supply in my front garage too so ideally it would run off that.

Zip instant heaters are quality items I've used one at work for a couple of years. (Sink) This one is spendy but made in Garmany and high quality.

Says it needs a 6mm cable supply / 32amp. Can set it at 6.6 or 8.8kw. I will likely need the full power for my application.

Going to look at one shortly which should have a discounted price.

plenty of flow and cheaper from your central heating anyway?


you're not supposed to feed hot water into a normal pressure washer.... but I've done it loads and never had a problem with it - it's important to have decent pressure into the pump so you don't get cavitation

My house only has electric immersion heater tank. I do not use the oil boiler for domestic hot water. The tank is also at one end of the house.

So the hot water has to be run for 20 seconds or so before it even runs hot at my utility room. And that would need a mixer tap fitted.

Besides all that, that means having to pre plan and have the tank fully warmed up. It would also run out of hot water when washing 2 or 4 cars which I can do on occasion since there are 12x cars at my house.

So yeah an instant water heating solution on demand is preferable for my intended use.

basically an inline immersion heater

you could add your own little controller alongside the thermostat to give you better temperature control (digital controller £10, 240v relay £15)

probably 3kw max in that size so build your own if you want more power?


it'll at least give you max flow rate either way, and no warm up time


pressure washer will run at whatever temp the heater size you use can produce

if you want a hot bucker just turn the tap on slow

EDIT: if you made your own you could make it longer with an immersion heater in each end, so you could run 1 or 2, to pick between 3kw and 6kw?

With just a 32A supply you'll be limited to the 6.6kW option, so that gives you a temp rise of 18 deg C at 5l/min.

Did you spot that the max flow of that zip heater is 5 l/min and the minimum flow of the washer is 10 l/min, not sure what the implication is for cavitation or damage to either appliance but they seems mismatched.

I'll read the destructions and install appropriate power supply for full power.

Not the Kranzle is max 10l flow. That all depends on many factors such as your water supply. I will test it into a 20L bucket today and see. I doubt it's 10L to be honest. And if it is I can turn down the dial on the machine to slow the flow and note the pressure gauge setting.

The manual says either of these power options:

6.6kw chosen power. 3x4mm2 cable and 28.7amp

8.8kw chosen power. 3x6mm2 cable and 38.3 amp.

So I guess I'll test it on my back garage 32amp plug first at 6.5kw and see how it gets on. (C current breaker 6mm cable etc full RCD protection)

Classic Mercedes from 90s to 2000s. Mostly S and E classes. And 1x modern Jag soon to be going.

Most of my cars are projects- but there are 3 or 4 road legal at any one time so I do get the use out of my car washer. Including an underbody washer so warm water would also be great for that.

I have my Lavor steam cleaner but its a bit of an old beast. It only runs full rip power wise and on short uses for engine block cleaning it's fantastic. But it will Litterally take paint off diffs etc. I only use it for very heavy duty engine cleaning when restoring a car.

This was my S430 engine block couldn't see it with the steam cloud

plenty of options if you don't mind getting the wallet out.
Otherwise just use a 63a commando or ev charging plugs/sockets are 40a

Get a 16mm cable run to the garage then you can have 2 sockets fitted and use 2 of those heaters together. That should give you the 10lpm to match everything up.

Got it hooked up just to test. It is simple to use and reaches temp in seconds. Max 55c setting. It's set a 6.6kw just now on 32 amp supply.



Can see the steam a little here using warm water



I do have to turn my kranzle washer down to run off it happily. But I can get warm water and a decent jet.

In terns of using electric for this application this is probably about as good as it gets really. I'll try it for a while and see may be too low a flow though.

This ended up being my final solution for this:



That is, a newer more compact Lavor Diesel Hot water pressure washer. It fits nicely under a shelving bay in my front garage. It puts out constant 90c water which is also fully adjustable temperature wise.

Very economical to run on fuel too.
