My fridge-freezer died last year, one of the few things I don't have the kit to sort... ordered a cheap new one from AO and when it arrived the van was packed to the Luton roof with the used appliances (mostly washers) they'd collected at each delivery. With few exceptions the washing machines looked to be more recent and in better condition than the ageing 1400-spin Indesit I paid £250 for in the mid-2000s. Most of them probably only needed brushes/ bearings/ seals (all that the Indesit has ever needed as well). That said, the Indesit was barely out of warranty when its main bearings failed the first time (hardly any grease in them when I stripped it, maybe deliberate?). I went to a local appliance place, big arrogant bloke in there told me 'the wife had obviously hammered it' and he could sell me a used Bosch instead. I pointed out I was a single man and it did a couple of loads a week: oh well, he says, cheapo machine, not worth fixing. Spun me some yarn about the drum not being splittable (I already had it apart by then) so 'you can't get the parts'.

I skipped a 25 yr old bosch the other day. Rear bearing was making a hell of a racket. Right pain to split the drum and the kit was nearly £100. Was sad to skip it but my judgement was that time and expense of parts was too high this time. Had done three sets of brushes on it and a secondhand motor at one point.

At least they took your old appliance, I was looking to replace separate fridge and freezer with a combined one last year, found one I liked on AO, but before ordering I phoned and asked if they would take away the separates when delivering the combined one which I was assured they would so I placed the order, got a phone call telling me when delivery was due so I again asked about collecting the 2 old appliances, he said "yes, that's all on the order". Come the day of the delivery they would only take one appliance
so I was left with a fridge outside the house until after many irate phonecalls they collected it a few days later, AO got a very bad review which they weren't happy about.
