Washbasin drain assembly order

I have just plumbed in the washbasin on a test fit basis but can't seem to seal it. I suspect I have the components in the wrong order?

I have the drain, rubber washer next, put into basin and nylon washer and nut underneath.

I've always used some silicone wiped round, but I'm an amature.

If you take apart old jobs, you often find plumbers malt.

I always bed the drain part onto something, silicone or plumbers paste, any washers go underneath...never had a leak yet.

I did all mine bedded into silicone, 3 different sinks, 3 different pop up waste kits. None felt like they'd seal properly, so siliconed from the off.
No idea if that's correct, but been okay for the last 6 months.

Got to be really hasn't it? I will give it a go tomorrow. Still got missing bits to this suite. Never again will I do business with Plumb Centre or Wolsely as they are now known as. They short changed me on what I bought so had to buy all the accessories again, then found lots of missing parts.

Bought a 63mm to soil pipe adapter to find that they had given me a part intended for 3" pipe rather than 4".

Tbh I never have much luck with drain kits sealing and tend to give them a run of sealant as a matter of course these days.

All the ones I've seen or have installed have the waste fitted directly onto the ceramic surface, with some sanitary silicone in between the two.

The rest is just as below. No need to over tighten, just enough to lightly squeeze the rubber / neoprene seal, which will also push out any excess sealant.

Silicone the lot. I'd swap the nylon and rubber washers around too - the bottom is the bit that seals

I silicone under the flange to stop basin emptying when plug is in place if basin isn't perfect shape, rubber washer outside under the bowl without silicone as that can make the rubber spread and squeeze out , nylon washer under rubber one so the nut slides smoothly when tightened and doesn't grip on the rubber.

If the ceramics are really bad you can get jumbo bottom seals that are about a 3/4 wedge shape for the bottom to help get a seal.

One of my toilet suites (already here when I purchased the house) needs best part of a tub of plumbers mate to get it all to seal - there is over 3/4 gap between the toilet pan and cistern due to how much the ceramics buckled during manufacture - this is an expensive suite.

As a temporary measure (9 years ago) I go a wickes ultra cheap suite - £45 for the loo (including syphon etc pre installed and seat) and a £35 basin - the ceramics are fantastic and the best quality I have ever seen, the pan and cistern as sealedf together using the 1/8" foam washer supplied and it has never leaked!
