Hi Peter,

Yeah it does look a bit nasty but that's a so called professional (or that's what he believes he is) It's welded on the bottom and the sides (just) and a few tacks at the top.

Even today when I said he tried to weld to much to quick, his reply was that the metal was too thin.

Then he shouldn't have attempted the job, used gas or at least warned you that it may not work properly.

I agree. My fault too, I've had my welder for ages now and still not got round to learning, if I did I could have done the job myself!!!! lol

Just for info purposes here's a shrinking hammer, it has the effect of folding the metal back into itself.

Panel beater with a shrinking hammer would do the trick.

erm, that looks pretty horrible...

Is it just welded across the bottom with a couple of tacks at the top?

Is it supposed to look like that or is the job only half done?

You did say a 'professional' welder did it? :-)

Hmmm unfortunately most who work on cars are simply not professional welders, Most like myself would rather resort to street sweeping before touching car work........

I picked up a great job-lot of panel beating gear on ebay, hammers, dollys, slappers, files etc. The guy selling gave me loads of hints and tips but when I asked what the brand new un-used Snap-On shrinking hammer was for he said "It's un-used for a good reason!"

They do have a tendancy to make a mess sometimes. Nothing serious that some stopper or high build primer wont sort though.
