Warning signs

Can anyone tell me what the regulations are regarding having the red and or green triangular warning stickers , compressed

gas /flamable gas ,on vehicles .??
i.e .do i need any warning signs on my van if carrying argon or argoshield gas even if its just one bottle ocassionally .?

oh and if i need them ,where do you buy them from ? im assuming the gas supplier .
ive yet to sort out a gas supplier but am watching with interest the current offer to forum members from air products...

My dad does safety for AstraZeneca and I used to when I was tech manager for a chemical company. Fell out with them over the lack of money being spent on safety equipment!!!

If you've got a compressed cylinder in your car/van/lorry you'll need a sticker if your in the UK... On the back where it's clear and the cylinder needs to be secure inside, some sort of rack at 30° is ideal and a thick rubber band or bungee to stop it moving...

You can usually get them from hardware equipment suppliers but you'll need to get the right one, they're all coded with numbers, 1, 2, 3, etc... Send an email to the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), they're there to help, not just hinder.
Might even send a picture back by email so you can print it off and laminate it!

I believe at the top of our drive there is a 2WE multi chemical, multi hazard sign, this covers me and my uncle who effectively lives next door

If its just for occasional use consider removable/magnetic signs so as not to confuse the authorities in the event of a accident.

i reckon the magnetic ones sound like a good idea ,as the bottles will only be mobile ocassionally .
think it might be easier to get hold of a wig and make up bag tho

Your find stickers on sell on eBay I have them on pvc and then magnet sheet pads so I can take them off or change for type of gas

If anyone needs Vinyl Signs / Stickers - or Magnetics - let me know - it's what we do - I can probably do them at a better price than most you will find...(other than the odd one on Ebay that is determined to give stuff away)
We don't do the "Printed" sticker type stuff - we do "cut vinyl" - which is a solid colour film - not "ink on white"

Welcome - your sidecar racing sounds interesting. To sway the thread off topic a little what's involved in making these signs from scratch? Lots of setup? I keep having ideas for such things but worried about the numbers I might need to order.

Tell me what you have in mind - I'll tell you what's involved - I won't try to blind you with a load of bull like a lot of the "Graphic Arts" people try to do - I originally trained as a Machine tool engineer - too many years ago - but will have a go at pretty much anything - if it interests me enough)
Have been doing Sign / Computer Graphics for coming up to 12 years now but still have a leaning towards sticking bits of metal together...
Anyway - tell me what you're looking to do ?
Oh - and if you found my websites - apologies for the unfinished state - I had to take a rest from bashing my head on the keyboard - I will be returning when my head stops hurting to finish the job...

With regards to stickers, carrying cylinders on a legal side of things now..... only because I have an ADR licence...

Any vehicle carrying a cylinder should have a sticker displayed on the back, whether it's for a compressed gas, or flammable gas cylinder..

The person driving the vehicle, MUST be aware of what they are carrying in the back. In case of an accident (god forbid), the person must tell the emergency services that a cylinder is on board, and must tell them exactly what the gas is, so they can act accordingly.. Not failing to do so can get you into a whole heap of trouble..

Carrying cylinders in an enclosed vehicle... legally, only 2 x 10ltr cylinders are the maximum anyone can carry..

Carrying cylinders in an open vehicle... can legally carry upto the capacity of the weight of the vehicle, or up to the ADR regulations (999 units), whichever comes first.

All cylinders MUST be transported upright.

I've been looking for the green diamonds to print up myself - the wife does vinyl graphics as part of her business - with no joy so far.

I have found this leaflet from the British Compressed Gas Association. It's aimed at those who might collect a single cylinder every now and again - us hobby types. Interestingly, it says that it's only acetylene and LPG that need to be transported upright. One of the pictures clearly shows a cylinder strapped horizontally in the boot of a hatchback.
