I've been quiet on here for the last week and a bit. (Saturday before last) I was blue lighted to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton with chest pains. After a lot of investigations including Three, yes, Three cancelled CT scans. I was told today that I had had a mild heart attack without obstruction of the arteries. Obviously I've got to give up smoking, get fitter and eat healthy. It's a wake up call for me. So As I've got 4 weeks off. I'm going to look at trying to find a part time job so I can get more time at home in my workshop

Firstly good to hear you caught it in time , and yes get things sorted and enjoy doing what ever (mostly) you like , get well soon and let us know how things are going ,

My second father, my friend's dad actually but it's like having another father for me as we spent most of the last 15 or so years doing everything together fishing, seeking mushrooms in the forest, Christmas, new year eves birthdays etc.
Him and his family are actually my family too.
Anyways he got a pretty bad heart attack, and half of his heart doesn't work anymore due to necrosis.
He was dead and they saved him.
He's not the same after expiriencing that, they said blood didn't reach the brain for too long causing permanent damages.
He quit smoking and drinking all at once, from 40+ to 0 cigarettes.
The workshop is a safe place to discharge stress but just respect yourself and don't overdo, might be hard to understand or accept but you can not do everything you did before with the same energy or strength.
Especially now, you quit smoking, and thrust me you'll be coughing for weeks even months till you'll free your lungs.

I've had a defib pacemaker now for 4 years......
it's saved my life 6 times now......
believe, when they say that when the shock hits it like being kicked by a horse in the chest.....not funny....
my last one was because I forgot to take my morning pills....5 hours later it went off....
some advice other than the above, when u feel tired ....
STOP ......... have a nap....after years I have now accepted it as part of life.....but u get good days when u can work thru....
enjoy ur extra fun time in the w/shop.....u'll wonder how u evr had time for a REAL job.....

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. If they haven't already offered, see if your cardio team/gp can refer you to a cardio rehab program. Not only is exercise important but the way you go about it and the level of exercise. Going through a similar situation myself. Whilst these things affect people differently your 4 weeks off may be a tad optimistic. Your personal/financial situation will obviously have an impact on your decisions but depending on your current employers sick pay scheme, rushing to change jobs may not be in your best interests if you are unable to work for longer than you anticipate. Best wishes.
Glad to hear you are recovering bourbon take your time don't rush into things get all the rehab and diet advice you can; exhaust your employer's sick pay scheme only then decide how you want to proceed. I had a triple heart bypass 12 years ago and am still here. I retired after the operation (and sick leave) aged 63 one of the better decisions I made.

One of my old bosses had multiple warning shots, bypass ops etc., but ignored all the advice and continued smoking like a trooper, he dropped dead on the rugby pitch aged 54, no great loss to society.

After a few light warnings and also ending up in New Cross A&E i changed my whole life so now its less stress, better diet, more me time and if i do need to go to A&E i go to Russells hall as the canteen is way better

I was in hospital 5 weeks ago with a heart attack ( heart attack- no stars. Would not buy again. Hospital care was excellent). A bit of a surprise at 56, and it didn't go down as I expected from Hollywood. There was no dramatic chest grabbing antics etc.
I was fixing the effluent spreader line where a digger had damaged it. I carried a 2kva generator around 10 m from the tractor to where I needed to heat up a pice of pipe with the hot air gun. I was feeling dizzy and puffing like a steam train as I got the card board box of fittings from the tractor whilst muttering about how needed to exercise more (true). I started the job, still not well, and called Dave the sharemilker who was cutting firewood with his ex farm worker Jacob up the hill, saying I wasn't feeling well and I might need a hand. In typical direct farmer fashion, his first words when he saw me were "mate, you look like sh@#t. You had better get Stephanie to take you to the doctor ". Anyway, they finished the job off, as you can't leave it half done, Dave ran me home. He didn't trust me so he called my wife as well and she came back from town, ran me to the after hours clinic. Nothing like a tight chest and dizziness to bypass the 2hr queue....
Straight onto a machine that goes "ping", ambulance ride to the emergency ward, 5 days in hearty towers.there was also internal bleeding leading to low iron levels, suspected ulcers which they checked out with a camera down the throat. I had one up the other end a year back so they got the results from that and didn't have to repeat it. I am told they wash the camera between bottom and top inspections :-)
Angiography showed 1 artery running at 70%, one completely blocked but the body had done a DIY bypass. It was to blocked to poke through. I suspect it had been building for a while for this to happen.
At this stage it is lots of pills, and I will know more on Tuesday after a visit to the cardio specialist for a follow up.
It explains why I have been so tired for the last year. It was particularly stressful with the end of financial year at work, a last minute rush on what has been agreed of a year, and some family issues going down that were a real problem, so maybe it all came together at once.
My father had a heart attack at 53, planning it well to do it in the YMCA gym, in front of a passing paramedic and 50m away from the central city ambulance station. They said at the time, if he had had it at the back of the farm, he would be dead. They travelled all over the world afterwards so it didn't slowmy parents down. He did have a 6 week stay in hospital in Delhi in India where the top heart surgeon nknew his one here having met before at conference. The world of dicky ticker repair mechanics must be a small one.
