Warco VMC Z Axis riser manufacture

Hi All,
Sorry if I'm in the wrong part of the forum - wasn't sure where was appropriate for begging

I need to make the above riser for my Mill - I have the mat'l: 6" diameter EN3 bar, but I don't have a working lathe (Super 7 might be a bit small anyway for an inexperienced turner).

Is there anyone in the East Midlands can help me with this (or know anyone who can)?

Not that I am in East Midlands but I am in Kidderminster and I have a Colchester Master 2500 that should be big enough..

I assume you meant Z leadscrew?

Not at the moment - with usually having a vice (or two) on and something in the spindle, should be ok for at least a while

Oops typo, yes the Z.
I've got a 4" riser block on mine, only just got the vice but haven't got any R8 collets yet so haven't given it a go to see if it's an issue or not.
Pretty sure double boost made a new Z screw for his.

I have the same machine you can all so get more movement out of the X and Y If you trim the hand wheel castings for the X and hog out the knee casting for the Y. All so a VDF makes it a very more useful machine.

Yeah I did the mod to the knee, haven’t bothered doing the X axis yet. This is the before, didn't take an after, but it gives you an idea how much extra travel you can get.

A new leadscrew would be even more difficult without a lathe! Maybe I can fit a ballscrew

Ball screw, if that was a serious suggestion, is maybe not such a good idea, especially on the knee, as they have so little friction, they can self drive.

I do not know the construction of these machines but is the end of the thread touching the nut when the knee is fully down? If not, is there any possibility of extending the screw at that end by letting in a plain section?

Tempted to fit a ball screw with servo drive - sometime in the future though

The knee is fully down on the nut at it's lowest - checked that yesterday, as I had the same thoughts
