Hi Folks.

I have a WARCO drill I bought secondhand and unfortunately there are a few idiot marks in the table.

Has anyone had any success in welding them up and the regrinding the surface ?.

You could braze , but some of the table castings are pretty poor quality, if you find an inclusion when trying, you could cause more trouble.
and cast is horrible for holding contamination, so if cutting oils/fluids have been used, they will be lurking in there just waiting to come out.
Unless its causing issues i would leave well alone.

I welded my old Elliott progress 2GS, TIG’d with ERNI-1 I think if I can remember correctly, if not it was a rod that was practically pure Nickel.

Came out ok, more weld went into this than I’d care to admit, but it was a particularly bad example of idiot marks.
You’ll always see the weld and depending on how much you need to put in, there’s a decent chance you’ll bow the table too, but if your post weld machining then that’ll not be too much of an issue.
I wouldn’t use mild steel, at the very least I’d use a stainless otherwise the weld will become very hard and brittle.

Some of those hole saw marks at the bottom of the first photo were nearly through… plus lots of other smaller holes right through. I couldn’t believe there would be such a careless operator! Usually you can tell when you through

Leave them there, it will hurt less when you do one yourself
